As February 14 approaches, you might still be looking for Valentine ideas for yourself or the kids that do not involve more candy. How about giving pencils or pens to your friends this year? This “you’ve got the write stuff” tag is so easy to make and slides write onto the pencil. You may download your free printable tags at the bottom of this page.
Materials:
Printer (you may also bring the PDF to a copy store near you–I used Fed Ex)
White Cardstock
Scissors
3.5 inch Hole Punch
Pencils
X-ACTO Knife
STEP 1 Download and Print Your Tags
Download the PDF using the link at the bottom of this sheet. Save it to your hard drive or a thumb drive. The PDF is a letter size, 8.5×11 inch sheet, with four circle tags on a page.
For paper, use a white cardstock. If you do not have a printer, you can also have them printed at Fed Ex, Staples or an office store local to you.
Once you are ready, print as many sheets as you need.
STEP 2 Cut Out Your Tags
The tool you need to make these tags is an extra large circle punch. This design is compatible with a 3.5 inch circle. I used this punch that I bought on Amazon and I love it. It is so easy to use.
First, cut the tags into four rough squares using scissors, leaving a white border about a half inch away from the red dotted line. They don’t need to be straight as you will be cutting them again with the punch. Next, insert your sheet and flip the punch over so that you can center the design inside the frame. Then just press down firmly.
You now have a perfect circle.
STEP 3 Cut Slits
Using the X-ACTO knife, cut two slits in the tags, about a half inch in length, near the right and left sides of the heart. I made the right cut slightly higher than the left one, so that the pencil will angle down when I insert it.
STEP 4 Insert Pencil
Insert your pencil through the slits, so it resembles a heart pierced by an arrow. I used plain white pencils, but the kids would probably love Valentine pencils like these or these a little better. If you really want to get fancy, try these pencil arrows.
