As much as I love a beautifully wrapped box, sometimes it is just easier to use a gift bag to wrap gifts. The only problem is that most inexpensive gift bags are ugly, and most pretty bags cost a fortune. Neither of those options is acceptable in my world. Enter the humble brown paper bag. It’s so simple, and you can decorate it any way you like. I designed these extra large bunting tags with the classic paper lunch bag in mind. They have a rustic wreath and read Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Add baker’s twine, and you can create beautiful packaging for pennies.
Materials:
Printer (you may also bring the PDF to a copy store near you–I used Fed Ex)
Paper Cutter
White Cardstock (You can also use a colored cardstock)
Scissors
Hole Punch
Baker’s Twine
Brown Paper Bag
STEP 1 Download and Print Your Tags
Download the PDF using the link at the bottom of this sheet. Save it to your hard drive or a thumb drive. The PDF is a letter size, 8.5×11 inch sheet, with two tags on a page.
For paper, use a bright white or pastel colored cardstock. If you do not have a printer, you can also just have them printed at an office store local to you.
Once you are ready, print as many sheets as you need.
STEP 2 Cut Out Your Tags
I prefer to use a paper cutter when I am cutting out tags, as it helps to get the corners perfectly square using the guides. I love my Purple Cows Trimmer. If you don’t have a paper cutter, however, you can also use scissors.
STEP 3 Punch Holes
Put your gift into the bag, then fold it down once or twice (If you have a lot of extra bag, you might want to trim the length first.) Place the tag against the bag, aligning the top with the fold. Using a small hole punch, create holes near the top two corners of the tags.
STEP 4 Tie to Gifts
I used baker’s twine and looped it through and around the bag several times. I tied a bow at the top center. So pretty.

These are beautiful. It also looks like it would be a really pretty way to reuse the saved, pretty card fronts from the previous Christmas, instead of the printed card. I always hate to throw those away.
