How to Decorate Bundt Cakes for Birthdays

Personalized Birthday Cake Banner DIY for Bundt Cake

After the pandemic started, I became closer with one of my neighbors. We had always been friendly, but by April we had truly become friends. Cut off from work and friends and all of my old routines, I really needed a new lifeline, and she became it. Not a day goes by now that we don’t at least text, and we also have spent many hours sitting in the garden chatting. When it was her birthday a couple of weeks ago and she said she wanted a pound cake, I was ready. My granny’s cold oven pound cake recipe is out of this world, and I have made it many times. The only problem was that a pound or Bundt cake doesn’t look very festive all by itself. I therefore decided to make tiny personalized bunting with her name on it for the top of the cake, and I love the way it turned out. I’m sorry I didn’t take many photos, but I did take one to give you the idea. I uploaded the full alphabet of flags in all three colors, as well as the little happy birthday banner. These can be used on any style cake. You may download your free printables using the form at the end of these instructions.

Materials:

Printer
White Cardstock
Decoupage Scissors
Paper Straws (2)
Lollipop Sticks (2)
Baker’s Twine
Glue

STEP 1 Download and Print

Download the PDF using the link at the bottom of this page. Save it to your hard drive or a thumb drive. The PDF is letter size, 8.5×11 inches.

For paper, use a white cardstock.  If you do not have a printer, you can also have them printed at Staples or an office store local to you. You may print the entire thing or just the colors you prefer.

Once you are ready, print as many sheets as you need.

STEP 2 Cut Out

Cut out the flags using decoupage scissors or an x-acto knife and straight edge. Carefully fold each flag in half. If you are using the happy birthday banner, cut out that as well.

STEP 3 Create Banner

Cut a length of twine. Center the twine along the folds of the letter flags. Glue each flag together and let dry. Tie the twine to two straws and stick into your cake.

To make the happy birthday banner, I glued the print to two lollipop sticks, let dry, and then stuck it in the cake in front of the personalized name banner.
