Rustic Gift Wrapping With Fresh Flowers

Gift Wrapping with a Small Floral Bouquet

Yesterday I met a friend for brunch in Old Town Alexandria. I had a little time to kill afterward, so popped into the Paper Source in search of inspiration. Of course, I ended up buying a few things as well, including some fun gift boxes with lids that were on sale. Even though I had just meant to look, I knew these would work perfectly for the gift wrapping project I was planning to do today.  Other than the box, I used items I found around my house and garden. This project really is seasonless—just adjust to whatever flowers or greenery you have available. If you are an apartment dweller or not a gardener, buy whatever strikes your fancy at the grocery store (Trader Joe’s has great inexpensive bouquets), snip off a few blooms, and put the rest in a vase to enjoy.

STEP 1 Create Your Bouquet

Cut some flowers and/or greenery from the garden. How many depends on how large your box is and how big you would like your arrangement to be. We are in the height of summer here, so I selected several black eyed Susans and false indigo leaves. Dampen the paper towel and wrap it around the stems. Then cut the bottom of your baggie off, as much as you need, and wrap it over the paper towel to keep your paper from getting wet. Use a rubber band or piece of twine to hold it in place.

STEP 2 Wrap in Paper

Place your bouquet diagonally onto a square of kraft paper.  First, fold across the bouquet, then fold up, then across from the other side, as shown in the pictures. Tie a piece of baker’s twine around the paper to hold it in place.

STEP 3 Attach to gift

Use any gift box or wrapped gift as the base for your bouquet.  The one I used is called “gold big boom” and it is currently on sale from the Paper Source. I tied my gift box together with twine, stringing it through the twine around the bouquet to hold it in place. You can also tape or glue it to the box. These are so sweet and perfect for bridesmaid gifts, baby showers, or birthdays. Enjoy!
